Anta 2 da Herdade dos Cebolinhos
A large megalithic monument with a chamber and corridor.
It is from the heyday of the great megalithic monuments in Alentejo and is in a reasonable state of preservation under some trees.
The monument measures 7.6m in total length. It has a polygonal chamber with seven pillars measuring 2×2.9 metres in diameter and a corridor 5 metres long, with covers still in situ. Part of the tumulus (dolmen) is in a reasonable state of preservation. On the left side of the corridor, attached to the monument, a tholos (responsible for shale fragments at the surface) preserved human remains (two adults and a sub-adult). There were fragments of ceramic containers (one with symbolic decoration and filled with white paste) and schist plaques with geometric decoration.
The presence of human remains, an uncommon situation in the Reguengos dolmens (essentially the result of acidity in granite soils), made it possible to obtain two radiocarbon dates for the final use of the chamber, which generally fall within the third quarter of the 3rd millennium BC. These dates document the long-lasting use of this monument, a situation recurrent in other sizeable megalithic monuments in Alentejo.
Very partially excavated in 1996 and 1997.
